06-05 Students can join Trust's Combined Cadet Force

Our students have been given the chance to join the Brooke Weston Trust’s Combined Cadet Force for the first time.

Our students have been given the chance to join the Brooke Weston Trust’s Combined Cadet Force for the first time.

The Force was launched this year and from September our students will be old enough to join it.

CTS Teacher Nigel Barrett, who was previously a Warrant Officer 1st Class with the Royal Marine Commandos, serves as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Trust’s Cadet Force.

He said: “We’re very excited to give Year 9 students at Corby Technical School the chance to be part of the Trust’s Cadet Force from September onwards.

“Successful candidates will be taught essential life skills and take part in activities designed to help them develop their self-confidence and learn how to cope with pressure.

“They will also be able to take part in exciting trips and excursions and a number of residential weekends.

“For example, this summer our Cadets will visit Scotland as part of their adventure training and field training.”

Current cadets have also recently returned from a residential trip to an Army training area where they learned military skills, including ambush techniques, cooking skills and shelter building.

Applicants need to return a letter outlining why they want to join the Force and a permission slip from their parents by tomorrow (Thursday 7th May).

Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed for the 30 available places.
