13-05 Students visit De Montfort University

A group of 15 students took part in the second of our series of Year 9 University Trips.

The students visited De Montfort University in Leicester earlier this month to take part in a University Taster Day.

During the trip the students had the chance to tour a number of university departments, including the engineering and science areas, take part in a range of activities, tour the wider campus and speak to current university students.

CTS Vice Principal Linda Arnold said: “All the students who went on the trip are aiming to go to university and it gave them a useful insight into university life.”

Year 9 student Georgia, who would like to study Business or Art at university, was among the students who went on the trip.

She said: “We had a talk about the campus and had the chance to meet current students and ask them questions about university life.

“I’m very keen to go to university following the visit and De Montfort University is somewhere I would like to study.”

Our Year 9 university visits are designed to encourage our students to begin thinking about what impact the decisions they make now can have on their futures.

Last month a group of students who are interested in engineering careers visited Cambridge University’s Pembroke College and Department of Engineering.

Next month all our Year 9 students will have the opportunity to visit the University of Northampton.
