04-11 CTS selected for global weather project

Young meterologists from our school have been given the chance to take part in a global weather project.

We have been invited to set up a weather station as part of the Raspberry Pi Weather Stations for Schools project which has been launched by the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Our school is one of only 1,000 schools from across the world that have been selected to take part in the project.

CTS Design and Technology Teacher Nigel Barrett said: “It is amazing that we have been chosen to be one of the schools that are taking part in this programme.

“We will collect weather data, analyse it and share it with the other schools.

“This will be a cross-curricular project because the data will be used in a variety of lessons, including Science, Geography, Mathematics, Design and Technology and Computing.”

Students will use a predefined Raspberry Pi hardware kit to build their own weather station and write application code that logs a range of weather data, including wind speed, direction, temperature, pressure and humidity.

We will also develop a website on the Raspberry Pi to display local weather conditions that can be accessed by other participating schools and we will have access to the Weather Station for Schools program website.

Students who are interested in taking part in the project should contact Mr Barrett.
