School supports community charity

Corby Technical School has established a community link with the Corby Foodbank charity.

Corby Technical School has established a community link with the Corby Foodbank charity.

Students have been donating non-perishable food over the past week for the charity, which distributes food to needy families in the town.

English Teacher Cathy Gaunt said: “I gave an assembly this week on the subject of community and we talked about the Foodbank and the response from the students has been incredible.

“A group of students and myself will be visiting the Foodbank soon to deliver the food and find out more about how the charity works. The students will the report back to the whole school during assembly time.”

Students Shannon Sinclair and Ollie Steadman (pictured) have donated.

Ollie said: "I did not even know that there was  Foodbank in Corby. It is important to help out as you don't want people to go hungry and there are lots of families out there who need these food parcels."

Corby Foodbank was set up in March 2012 and since June has helped more than 700 families. Run by volunteers it provides three-day emergency parcels to families in need. It operates three days a week from its premises in Princewood Road from 10am to 3pm and if you would like to help in anyway call 01536 737588.
