Recently Wates, the construction company, held a career workshop at CTS. The event took place on the schools new development site, which is being build by the company.

The community day was used to inform and inspire those looking to pursue a career in construction. There were many stalls and marquees the students could visit and some of the constructions workers themselves were on hand to offer an insight into the industry. Tresham College were on hand to speak to students about the courses and apprenticeship they offer and the relevant qualifications needed. There was even a stand dedicated to women in construction, who offered young females advice and encouragement.

Year 10 student Jack said ‘I was considering studying to become a bricklayer but was not set on it. I found the event very useful and am now looking into apprenticeships in the industry as I feel more informed about the job and think it is something I would enjoy.’

Year 10 student Drew said ‘I was set on working in the industry and hope to study to become a carpenter or bricklayer. I have found out about the qualification needed and the different routes into the field as well as the potential I could earn in these careers. It has been a really helpful event and has been great speaking to people working in the industry’

Teacher Mr Daniel Rogers said 'It was a very worthwhile and inspiring workshop for our students. Many of them received a lot of information not only about career opportunities in the construction industries but also the qualifications necessary.’
