All Ready for Maths Challenge

A team of four students will be pitting their mathematical skills against teams from other county schools when they take part in the UK MT Maths Challenge tomorrow (April 26th).

The event is being held at the Caroline Chisholm School in Northampton and our team of mathematicians, Jess Christensen, Sean Tanangonan, Rachel Campbell and Nathan Walton-Evans have been practising during a weekly after school club to make sure they are ready for the challenge.

Sean said: “I am nervous about it as although I like Maths there is pressure when you are part of a team as I don’t want to let it anyone down.

“It should be fun though.”

As part of the challenge, the students will be set a series of problems which they will have to solve using their combined efforts. These will involve relays – where the students have to answer a question against the clock before a question is asked to another team member – and cross numbers, which are in the style of crosswords but with numbers instead of letters.

As well as the county challenge there will be an individual school challenge later today involving 20 students.

The students have all been staying after school hours with Maths teacher Linda Arnold to sharpen their skills.
