The school are currently working with the ‘Imagine a day’ project team from the University of Northampton to help strengthen bonds with local universities to raise students’ aspirations and awareness of the opportunities that exist within higher education and beyond.

The project runs for 5 days over the course of 5 weeks and uses a range of games, acting, improvisation and play to help students explore different themes. Each session starts to form the basis of the next one. During the first session students explored the question ‘who are you?’ and began using play in space. In week two students looked at identity and focused on labels, ones people had been called and ones they label themselves as. They then performed a dance phrase to represent each to see which they preferred.

This week students are going to explore themselves as humans and look into their rights. The idea is to get students thinking outside of the box so although they are going to explore human rights they will do this by pretending to go to new planet which needs some rules creating.

A spokesperson from the company said ‘The students get so much out of the project. Performing in front of one another increases confidence and communication skills. Most importantly workshops like ours that use the senses have proved to have longer lasting effects than simply being told information.

Vice Principal Elizabeth said ‘The students are getting so much out of these sessions. It's lovely to see friendships already start to be made and so many of the students are starting to grow in confidence.’
