CTS students who are part of The Brooke Weston Trust Combined Cadet Force held special assemblies for Remembrance Day. The cadets spoke about the importance of Remembrance Day and why we wear the poppy.

LCpls Reece Pollen who has written and led the assemblies at the school for the last three years said ‘Each year we have a slightly different focus but try to make the assemblies factual and informative. As this year marks the 100-year anniversary of Passchendaele, I decided to create a timeline of all the conflicts Britain has been involved in from 1917 till present and this was presented by the new CCF students. The older cadets then spoke about the importance of the Royal British Legion, why we wear a poppy and why we should watch the Remembrance service on Sunday.

‘The profile of Remembrance Day has declined and people say that one day the poppy will be forgotten. By leading the assemblies I want to raise the profile of Remembrance Day as I think it is so important that we do not forget the people that have died and are still fighting for not only our freedom but our basic rights.’

Principal Angela Reynolds said ‘Having the CCF present the assembly makes it so much more relatable to students because it’s their fellow peers telling them all about it. Some of our CCF students will also be joining the army when they finish school and this makes it so much more personal to us as a school.

‘It really is such an honour to have our CCF students holds such an important and informative assembly.’
