Year 7 student, Lexi represented the District in the U13 County Cross Country Competition at Croyland Park, in Wellingborough, over the weekend.

Lexi qualified to represent the District after achieving first place at the U13 District Cross Country Championships at West Glebe Park, which took place back in November.

Despite a tough race at the County Championships, in which Lexi was up against over 100 other competitors and poor weather conditions, she managed to finish the race in 6th place. Placing in the top 14 means that she will now go through to the next round of the Anglian Trophy Inter-County Cross Country. This will take place on 3rd February in Ipswich.

Lexi has also recently been selected to represent Northamptonshire in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Competition on 10th March at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough.

She said ‘I am really pleased that I have managed to get through to the next round, I wasn’t expecting to. I run because it is a hobby of mine and I really enjoy it. I used to run for my primary school when I was younger and was spotted by a coach at Corby Athletics Club who asked me to join the team. I spend most of my weekends at competitions and hope to represent the country at the Olympics one day.’

Lead Teacher of PE and Vocational Studies Mr Daniel Rogers ‘Lexi is committed to the sport and has done exceptionally well. We are all very proud of her and wish her all the best in the next round.’
