12-12 Students are flying high thanks to new club

A talk about flying by a mechanical engineer has inspired our students to make their own model planes.

A talk about flying by a mechanical engineer has inspired our students to make their own model planes.
John Page visited our school last week to give an illustrated talk about his lifelong passion for planes and flying at the first meeting of our new Model Flying Club.
Design and Technology teacher Nigel Barrett said: "We were delighted that John wanted to bring his expertise into our school environment.
"He has a passion for flying and talked about how he got into flying.
"Following his talk our students are going to start making their own rubber band powered model aircraft."
Year 7 student Curtis said: "The session was really challenging. Mr Page talked to us about gliders and helicopters and the things he said just opened my mind.
"The best part was when he showed us the stealth plane hovering - I couldn't work out how on earth it was doing that.
"I loved every single minute of the talk and now I want to go on to teach other students about this topic and learn how to fly myself.
"I can't wait for us to start making our own model planes."
Year 7 student Bartosz added: "I really enjoyed it. I've always been interested in military planes so I was looking forward to finding out more about them.
"The talk was very interesting."
