Admissions criteria for Corby Technical School

Corby Technical School is situated close to the centre of Corby and is intended primarily to serve the area "Corby" which means the town of Corby and the associated villages for Corby Secondary schools, as defined in the Local Authority's Annual Information for Parents booklet (click here).

Appeals

Information for Parents

If, once you have received notification from the Local Authority, your child has been unsuccessful in obtaining a place at Corby Technical School, you are entitled to appeal that decision.  If you wish to appeal, please contact the school on 01536 213100 or by email to: appeals@corbytechnicalschool.org who will forward the relevant appeals documentation to you.  Alternatively, you can download a form which you will find at the bottom of this page.

Admissions Information regarding students with Statements of SEN or EHC

Phase Transfer

To enable parents, children and the receiving school to plan well in advance of transfer from primary to secondary phase, Part 4 of a student's statement of SEN or Section I of the EHC must be amended no later than 15th February in the year of transfer. Parents will receive a letter from NCC at the beginning of October, seeking details of their school preference or representations. Parents should return their preference to NCC by early November. Consultation then follows with the school and the Local Authority has to make the final decision about placement and will inform the parents. Parents are given their right of appeal to SENDIST at this stage, if they are not in agreement with the decision.

Appeals concerning Late Applications for Year 7

These appeals concern applications for Year 7 submitted to the Local Authority before the first day of the school term of the admission year (Year 7), Tuesday 4th September 2018 where a determination relating to the application is not made by the Local Authority on or before the offer day of March 1st 2018.  Appeals for late applications will be heard, where possible, within the main appeal hearing Date(s) of 13th, 14th and 15th June 2018 or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Appeals for In-Year Applications

These appeals concern applications for a place in Year 7 made after the first day of the School Term for Year 7 in 2018 – Tuesday 4th September 2018.  It also concerns applications for a school place in all other year groups. Appeals for in-year applications will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Further Appeals

Appellants do not have the right to a second appeal in respect of Corby Technical School for the same academic year unless, in exceptional circumstances, the School has accepted a second application from the appellant because of a significant and material change in the circumstances of the parent, child or school but still refused admission. Appellants may apply for a place in the school in respect of a later academic year and have a further right of appeal if that application is unsuccessful.
