02-07 Mathematicians share ideas with Uppingham students

Our mathematicians have taken part in two master classes with students from Uppingham Community College.

Our mathematicians have taken part in two master classes with students from a Specialist Technology academy.

Our Year 8 students visited Uppingham Community College last month where they spent time working with a group of Year 10 students and this week a group of Year 8 students from Uppingham visited our school.

It was the first time the two schools have visited one another for maths classes.

CTS Director of Mathematics Linda Arnold said: “We took 15 of our most able maths students to Uppingham Community College to give them the chance to work with its Year 10 top set maths students.

“They had a lesson on simultaneous equations and all the students worked really well together.

“I was very proud to see how confident our Year 8 students were. They were keen to contribute and I think the Year 10 students got as much out of the exchange as our students did.

“It was really useful for our students to work with older students because it gave them an idea of what is ahead of them.

“It would be wonderful if we could make this a regular event.”
