Our Book Club members have taken part in Corby’s annual celebration of a prestigious book awards competition.

Club members read the 15 books shortlisted for this year’s CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Book Awards and were invited to attend Corby’s annual celebration of the contest at Lodge Park Academy.

During the event Year 8 student Matthew won the CTS Book Pushing competition in which students were challenged to argue why their favourite book should win this year’s award.

Librarian Amy McKay said: “Matthew won the competition because he made a very persuasive argument for why his choice, When Mr Dog Bites, should win the overall title.

“It’s the first time students at Corby Technical School have shadowed the Carnegie judges and it was great that they had the opportunity to take part in the celebration at Lodge Park Academy. Hopefully we can build on this further next year.

“Our students attended the celebration with students from our fellow Brooke Weston Trust school, Corby Business Academy, and it was wonderful to see how well they all got on. There was a true feeling of unity between the Trust's schools.”

This year’s Carnegie and Kate Greenaway winners were announced on Monday.

The Carnegie Medal was won by Tanya Landman for Buffalo Soldier and the Kate Greenaway Medal was won by William Grill for Shackleton’s Journey.
