Secondary Schools from across the Brooke Weston Trust gathered together at Corby Business Academy to take part in their annual book quiz.

Staff and students attended the event in fancy dress showing an impressive array of costumes, including Gangsta Granny, a demon doll, Hogwarts students, Moone Boy, Katniss Everdeen, Filthy McNasty, Thing 1 & Thing 2, a dementor, Cruella Deville and a Dalmatian, and Lou Clark.

Acclaimed YA (Young Adult) author, Non Pratt also attended and gave a fantastic talk about the power of stories and her book 'unboxed', which was on the reading list.

Students read 20 books in preparation of the quiz, each of which fits into one of the four categories – Greg Grows Up (books that make good successors to the Wimpy Kid series), 5 a Day (books with fruit in the title), Bursting With Pride (books with an LGBT focus), Books at War (books set in different wars).  As well as these four rounds, there were an additional two rounds that quizzed students’ on their general book knowledge.

To add an extra dimension to the typical book quiz style four physical challenges were included in the day.  These were linked to specific books and were – how many oreos could be eaten in one go, performing the perfect pirouette, eating a lemon, and spinning a basketball.  The results of each challenge were hilarious!

48 students took part in the quiz, with an additional 30 attending Non Pratt’s talk. Every competing student received a goody bag and over 100 book prizes were given away throughout the day. Plus, winning teams received chocolate and trophies.

CTS Librarian, Jodie Kidner said: 12 students from CTS went – 2 teams of year 7s and 1 team of year 8s. It was a great day of quizzes, activities and prizes. We had four winners in the different practical challenges held throughout the day and Lily was among the winners for best overall book inspired costumes (chosen by guest author Non Pratt).’
