Labour Candidate Beth Miller recently visited our school to talk to students about how she turned her ambition for politics into a career and could potentially become the next MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire.

During Beth’s visit, the former Brooke Weston Trust student spoke to Key Stage 4 and 5 students about her education and interest in politics. She told students how she had campaigned for the Labour Party since being a teenager, fighting against cuts to key public services including the NHS, education and adult social care. 

Beth has been the Secretary of Labour Friends of the Forces, supporting soldiers, veterans and their families; spent three years representing all women under 27 in the Labour Party on the national committee; and over the last five and a half years she has worked in Westminster advising David Blunkett and more recently, Vernon Coaker.

The assembly ended with a Question and Answer session with Beth, which allowed the students to ask any questions they had for Beth.

Teacher Mr Bidwell said ‘Beth gave a very inspirational speech to our students about how she managed to turn her ambition for politics and Labour into a career. The fact that she has grown up and lived in Corby makes it only more real to the students that they can achieve their ambitions.’
