The school have recently appointed a group of students ranging from Years 8-13 to take on the active role of promoting the Humanities Department. The students will be involved in Open Evening events, delivering assemblies and leading tutor time competitions and interventions.

In order to become a subject leader the students had to complete a 100-word application explaining why they are passionate about the subject. Humanities Teacher Mr Bidwell said: ‘We have selected a group of 14 students from a range of year groups who we felt could all offer different qualities including geographers, historians and psychologists.

‘Humanities is an incredibly dynamic subject which is so relevant to the whole world around us. The role will allow the students to take on an active role in their learning. The subject also links with a variety of other subjects helping students to develop key cross-curricular skills which are highly valued by employers.’

The students’ are currently working on their first task to help promote the department at the school’s Open Evenings on Tuesday 18th September and Thursday 27th September. The students will then be working on an exciting project to deliver an assembly on Black History month to their peers and developing a new visual humanities learning environment to inspire students.
