Students from across Northamptonshire will descend on Corby Technical School for a countywide competition.

Our school will host the Northamptonshire School Games Project Ability Sportshall Athletics Competition on Wednesday 15th January.

The event will give primary and secondary students the chance to compete in teams in a pentathlon style competition made up of Standing Long Jump, Shuttle Runs, Target Throw, Chest Push and Speed Bounce.

Our students will also receive training beforehand to enable them to act as Young Leaders at the contest.

Corby, Oundle and Thrapston School Sports Partnership Schools Sports manager Matthew Peleszok said: “We are delighted to have seen Corby Technical School at more than 75% of the eligible Corby, Oundle and Thrapston School Games qualifiers since the school has opened.

“This is the third highest in the School Sports Partnership and I am delighted to now look to introduce Sports Leadership at Corby Technical School through the School Games.

“I am confident that all of the leaders we work with will be a credit to their school and make everyone welcome when they are here competing.”

PE teacher Louise Feeley said: “It’s great that our students are going to be trained as young leaders.

“We’re really proud to be hosting this event.”

Our Young Leaders will take up various roles from acting as officials to team managers supporting the learning and enjoyment of the competitors.

The Young Leaders will then represent the School Sports Partnership at the Northamptonshire School Games County Finals in February when over the course of a week more than 1,000 competitors and Young Leaders will represent their schools at the largest multi-sport competition in the county.

Project Ability was created to give more young disabled pupils the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.
