Media

Corby Technical School is dedicated to fostering an environment where students are empowered with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them, enabling them to become critical thinkers. Our Media Studies curriculum plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal.

The curriculum is designed to cultivate analytical thinking and equip students with the skills necessary to navigate and contribute to our media-saturated world. Students will explore a diverse range of genres and forms, gaining a nuanced understanding of media's impact on society.

Building upon foundational skills developed in Key Stage 3 through subjects such as English, PSHE, History, and Art, the Media Studies curriculum ensures a seamless transition and enhancement of knowledge. Drawing from these disciplines, students will develop a multifaceted skill set that includes critical analysis, effective communication, creative expression, and historical contextualization.

Key objectives:

  1. Critical Thinking: Develop the ability to critically analyse media content, discerning between fact and opinion, understanding bias, and recognizing the broader implications of media messages.
  2. Cross-curricular Approach: Integrate knowledge and skills acquired from English, PSHE, History, and Art to provide students with a holistic understanding of media and its historical, cultural, and artistic dimensions.
  3. Creative Expression: Encourage students to express themselves creatively through various media forms, fostering innovation and individuality.
  4. Ethical Awareness: Instil a sense of responsibility and ethical awareness in media consumption and production, emphasizing the societal impact of media choices.

The Media Studies curriculum at Corby Technical School seeks to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness required to navigate the complexities of the contemporary media landscape. By fostering critical thinking and creativity, we aim to prepare students not only for academic success but also for responsible and engaged citizenship in a media-driven society.

At KS4, students study OCR (J200) GCSE Media Studies.
