SEND & Inclusion

Corby Technical School is an inclusive, mainstream, secondary school. We are proud to be part of the Brooke Weston Trust.

Here at CTS, we value all learners – irrespective of their academic ability, which could be affected by additional needs. We recognise that every student has different needs and that all students require some form of individualised curriculum to support learning. We strive to create an environment where every student can succeed and enjoy educational successes.

Students recognised with SENd (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) are well-supported within the Academy; we have an established team of Support Staff who promptly respond to the educational requirements of our students. This is whilst students are encouraged to become resilient, ambitious and independent learners.

The SENd Learning Base, and consequently The SENd Department, provides specialist support for students with Special Educational Needs through individual and small group programmes of study; we match students’ particular needs with bespoke interventions. For example, some of the areas we target include: Literacy skills, Mathematical understanding, and Social and Emotional regulation.

Students recognised with SENd are also supported within classrooms, through Quality First Teaching. This is where all teachers ensure they have the knowledge of the students in front of them and their additional needs. This enables Teaching staff to provide a suitable, supportive and high-quality learning opportunities. Additionally, some students with Special Educational Needs receive support from a Teaching Assistant to support learning inside the classroom or through the delivery of additional supportive interventions. The main aim of the intervention is to equip students with the skills to become independent learners.

We pride ourselves in the effective relationships we build; partnerships with students, their parents and other outside agencies ensure that students make good progress at CTS. Moreover, we are committed to providing the best possible care and support to all students – especially those students who are faced with difficulties and challenges that present barriers to their learning.

Should you have a concern regarding your child, or any questions relating to the SENd Provision at CTS, please contact our school SENDCo: Jacob Toye.

The SENd Area

‘The Learning Base’ is the main base for interventions at Key Stage 3 and 4. It is also the learning space our Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants support students from; it is a small room facilitated by the SENd Team to support students academically and socially.

Curriculum Intent

  • Every child should be able to access a good quality education that is tailored to their needs, with access to QFT (Quality First Teaching), an accessible curriculum and an inclusive environment
  • At CTS our students recognised as having SENd are supported to fulfil their potential and are encouraged to strive for success
  • Every child deserves to succeed at school and experience Educational Successes
  • Every child, whatever their needs or disadvantages, should be educated to the highest standard; this enables them to enjoy their time in school, feel safe, achieve their full potential and begin to be shaped into adults who will contribute to society and lead full/independent lives
  • At CTS 'every teacher is a teacher of SENd'
