13-03 Method author meets our students

An author who immerses himself in the action he writes about has met our students.

An author who immerses himself in the action he writes about has met our students.

Chris Bradford has been published in more than 20 languages and nominated for over 25 book awards.

He is the author of the Young Samurai and Bodyguard series and visited Brooke Weston Academy at the end of last month to speak to a group of students, including 15 students from Corby Technical School.

Mr Bradford employs a ‘method’ style of writing in which he immerses himself in the action he writes about and to make his books as authentic as possible he has qualified as a bodyguard and undergone Samurai training in Japan.

Director of English Markus Wilson said: “The talk was amazing. There was the sound of gunshots going off in the background and he talked to the students about being a bodyguard.

“He was really engaging and entertaining.”

The talk ended with Mr Bradford giving a demonstration of his Samurai swordsmanship.

Afterwards he said: “Kids need to realise that books are exciting and to engage them in that way you need to demonstrate that. When they see a real samurai sword or a real bodyguard technique it engages them.

“One of my key goals in life is to get kids excited about reading.”

Mr Bradford has also written five non-fiction books on song-writing and the music business.
