10-04 Success at Technology Tournament

Corby Technical School won a category at this year’s prestigious Rotary Technology Tournament.

Corby Technical School won a category at this year’s prestigious Rotary Technology Tournament.

The competition is open to young people from across Northamptonshire and this year they were challenged to create a lifting mechanism to move a radioactive meteor – in the guise of a tennis ball – from one place to another safely.

The event also included a category for staff which was won by our Design and Technology teacher Nigel Barrett and our receptionist and administrator Tracy Keogh who were part of a team with staff members from Kettering Buccleuch Academy.

Mr Barrett said: “The staff entered the competition too and we were part of a team with staff from Buccleuch which won the category so we were very pleased about that.”

Our school also entered two teams of Year 8 students and a team of Year 7 students.

Mr Barrett added: “Our students did really well. Most of the competitors were in Year 9 so they all had more experience than our students do at the minute.

“Although they didn’t win they handled the test really well and I think the experience will help them when they enter other competitions in the future.”

The annual competition is run by the Rotary Club of Nene Valley.
