20-05 Currently Reading Scheme goes from strength to strength

Our Currently Reading scheme is going from strength to strength.

Our Currently Reading scheme is going from strength to strength.

The scheme sees our teachers act as reading role models. They achieve this by keeping our students informed about the books they are currently reading in their spare time.

The initiative was launched about 18 months ago and throughout this year our teachers have displayed pictures of the book they are currently reading in the windows of their classrooms.

English Teacher Markus Wilson, who is currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, said: “It shows the students that our staff have good reading habits and it encourages them to have good reading habits too.

“The students enjoy seeing the variety of different books that our teachers read and the Currently Reading scheme also acts as an unofficial reading recommendation list.

“The students get excited when they see that teachers have picked up on their book recommendations too.

“Ofsted gave us very positive feedback about the scheme.”
