Students staged their own version of Simon Cowell’s hit TV programme this week.
Five talented students took to the stage before our panel of judges and after a fierce battle Jess Christensen was crowned the winner.
The judges (comprised of Principal Angela Reynolds, Matt Isherwood, Angie Cursons and Joe Mann) were impressed by her ingenious use of the computer programme device Raspberry Pi to design a monopoly game.
The student, who has taught herself computer programming via You Tube tutorials, spent every evening for a week building the programme.
After the victory, she said: “I really enjoy the problem side of programming – you set yourself something to do and then come up with a solution.
“I enjoy playing games such as mine craft and want to be a games programmer when I finish school.”
The event, which took place in Assembly on April 24th and was organised by class 7C, was compared by our own Ant and Dec, Joe Rennie and Kian Blackwood.
The four other students who showed off their talents were:
Shannon Sinclair – who sang Ellie Gouldings Explosions
Paige Rennie – who played a piano solo of Maroon 5s Payphone
Vanessa Tasara – who baked her own adapted version of a chocolate chip cookie
Aaron Tamplin – he baked a sponge cake decorated with orange chocolate buttons and the school logo
Judge Angie Cursons said: “The level of talent on display was incredible. The cakes tasted delicious and the music was great to listen to. The judges decided on Jess as the winner because of the impressive level of her technical ability.”
