Rachel from the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies recently visited our school to give our students an insight into the industry.

The Institute for Creative Leather Technologies is based at the University of Northampton and is one of only two universities in the world (the other in India) to offer a degree in leather. Rachel who oversees the department shared her story with students of her background and how she ended up working in the leather industry. She discussed the global nature of the leather trade and technology. Rachel not only showed students the scientific background of leather but also showed students how it is used in the creative industry including its use in fashion. During the assembly, students were also able to gain an insight into the types of jobs related to the industry.

Teacher Mr Bidwell said ‘ Rachel gave a very interesting and insightful view into the world of leather and the careers it could lead into. As part of our ‘Ambition For All’ month, this visit has made the students really realise the wide variety of careers that exist, which they had never thought of before and has made them realise that their passions can really turn into a career.’
