Students take part in Carnegie shadowing scheme

Students at CTS will shadow the judging process of the Carnegie book awards from now until June, when the overall winner of the competition will be announced. The students have started taking part in weekly meetings where they share their thoughts on the shortlisted books and will decide who they think is the worthy winner.

The scheme supports the reading for pleasure iniative encouraging students to read books they would not usually pick up.

School Librarian Jodie, will run the scheme at the school, she said: ‘We really want to encourage students to read books out of their usual comfort zone and hopefully in the process they will find a new author or genre they like.

‘The scheme also encourages the students to explore topics that arise in the book, for instance this year human rights is quite prominent and I am keen for the students to form group discussion around the topic.’
