A major company kindly allowed one of its employees to give a talk to our students about the advantages of apprenticeships.

After viewing universities, Lauren Smith decided to take up an apprenticeship and is now the QC Co-ordinator at Fulkrum Technical Resources in Corby.

Lauren is also planning to take up training opportunities provided by her company, and is looking at the possibility of studying an Open University course, whilst she continues to advance in the firm.

She said: “There is no obligation to go to university and spend three years completing a degree you are unsure of.

“Apprenticeships allow you to learn and earn about a subject that you are interested in whether it’s construction, hairdressing, banking, animal care, art, public service or retail to name a few.”

CTS Assistant Principal Elizabeth James said: “Lauren told the students she didn’t want to go to university because of the cost and chose an apprenticeship as an alternative route.

“She told the students that good companies will invest in them if they work hard.

“We would like to thank Fulkrum Technical Resources for allowing Lauren to come and speak to us. We are very keen to build up links with companies in our community so that there is the potential for our students to access apprenticeships in the area post-16.”
