15-12 Students learn how creatures adapt at Bugtopia

More than 20 of our Year 7 STEM students visited Bugtopia.

More than 20 of our Year 7 STEM students visited Bugtopia.

During the visit the students saw a variety of creatures, including Thai beauty stick insects, Chilean rose tarantulas, glass lizards, panther chameleons and a dead leaf mantis.

CTS Head of Science Victoria Khan said: “The visit aided our students with their studies about adaptation, camouflage and predator-prey interactions.

“For example, we saw a glass lizard which is a legless lizard. It looks like a snake but it is actually a lizard that has lost its legs.

“We looked at a dead leaf mantis and the way it has adapted so that its front two legs are used as arms to catch prey with rather than legs to move around on.”
