Students will lead a special assembly on Friday, January 25th to remember the victims of the Holocaust.

7S have been researching the Holocaust and will be telling fellow students about the terrible events that took place during World War II and highlighting individual stories of those who tried to help the victims.

Student Rachel Campbell said: “The Jewish people were discriminated against just because of their religion and it is so important that we take time to remember them so that it will not happen again."

Toni Farrell said: “We have been learning about discrimination and it has been really shocking to find out about what actually happened.”

Historians think that almost 6 million Jewish people were killed during the holocaust. Many died horrific deaths in the concentration camps network built by the Nazi Germans.

The national event is organised by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust which was founded in 2005. Its aim is for people to stop for a few moments and remember the victims of the holocaust and Nazi persecution and the genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.

Corby Borough Council is also holding its first ever Holocaust Memorial Day event on Sunday, January 27th at the Cube at 1pm.

There will be readings from local people, short film testimonies and a minutes silence to remember the victims.
