Corby Technical School students received berets and awards at a ceremony held by the Brooke Weston Trust Combined Cadet Force. The event comprised a Remembrance ceremony and parade. It was attended by parents and Trust leaders, including CEO, Dr Andrew Campbell.

The colour party, comprising senior cadets, led the contingent for their formal parade. This was followed by a period of Remembrance with a poem, wreath laying and minute’s silence.

The Trust’s Director of Education Trish Stringer presented the newest cadets with their berets before promotions and individual awards were distributed.

CTS’s students were awarded: LCpl Lucy Walpole was promoted to Corporal while Cadet Mya Heaton was promoted to LCpl. She also received the Waterloo Shield for endeavour.

LCpl Reece Pollen had particular cause to celebrate as he was promoted to Corporal, was named Best 3rd Year cadet and was also part of the team that was awarded the Contingent Commander’s Commendation for outstanding performance at the Combat Cadet 2017 training camp where they achieved first place for expansion CCF contingents and fifth place overall.

Finally Miss Stringer was presented with the ‘Special Beret Award’ by Contingent Commander Capt Isherwood, as a thank you for her support for the BWT CCF since its formation nearly four years ago.

Afterwards Cpl Pollen said: ‘CCF is great experience because I am looking to go into the Army anyway so it is a perfect bridge from cadets to the military. I have had lots of experience that I can carry forward.’
