An RAF medic spent time with students at Corby Technical School just days before he is due to be deployed to Afghanistan.
SAC Charlie Mawby gave a talk to students in Years 7 and 8 about his three years in the RAF and the qualifications he needed to get into the force.
Teacher Nigel Barrett taught SAC Mawby when he attended Brooke Weston.
Mr Barrett said: “Charlie is going to Afghanistan in a couple of weeks. He will be on the front line and will be responsible for saving people’s lives so it was fantastic that he could come to see our students. He gave an inspirational talk and became a real role model for the students.
“He spoke to them about how he had got into the RAF and how important it is for the students to get their qualifications.
“In particular he impressed upon them how important it is to decide what you want to do earlier rather than later so you can start studying in that direction.
“He is a really nice lad and he is so passionate about what he does.”
Year 8 students Tonijayne and Shannon were both inspired by the talk.
Tonijayne said: “I found it interesting . It made us think about what we want to do.
“I found his advice very helpful.”
Shannon added: “I find his talk very inspiring because I have always wanted to be either a doctor or a medic when I’m older. I have also always wanted to travel so his role sounds really interesting.
“I’m now going to join the air cadets.”
SAC Mawsby visited the school just days before staff and students moved into our new building.
