The English department recently held a their first English language curriculum focus day to help students prepare for their exams.

During the carousel style workshop, students worked together in groups and had the chance to spend time with each of the teachers, benefitting from their specialisms. Students then took part in a creative writing competition and worked in mixed ability to write an introduction to story for the chance to win some prizes.

Director of English, Mr Markus Wilson said ‘We have taught the student all the content they need to know. During this session we wanted to focus on helping them develop the skills needed for the exam itself.

‘We have looked at lots of individual questions in our lessons but during this session, we taught the students the skills required to be able to answer any question in a way that maximises their marks. This will help students to close the gap between which level they are currently working at and which level we think they can achieve.

‘The students were very positive and engaged during the day and I would like to thank all of them for their working hard and pushing themselves to achieve their maximum.’

On Friday, the school will be holding an English literacy curriculum focus day.
