Several of our athletic students will play a pivotal role in a new initiative designed to increase the number of young people playing sport.

A group of our Year 9 students were officially named as Brooke Weston Trust Young Leaders at the launch of the scheme at Kettering Science Academy earlier this month.

In total 100 Young Leaders from secondary schools across the Trust were selected to promote sport to their peers because they have outstanding qualities and have demonstrated a commitment to sport.

One of our Young Leaders, Year 9 student Jordan, said: “It was a really good event and it was great to meet with all the other Young Leaders.

“I hope the programme will help me to develop in confidence and it will provide me with new skills and important experience to help me in the future.”

The Young Leaders will be encouraged to take an active role within their schools and will be responsible for sports festivals, assemblies, coaching, inspiring and setting a good example for others.

At the launch event the Young Leaders were given coaching advice on tag rugby, volleyball, football and Project Ability. They also looked at how they could use their role to assist students that are less able to enjoy sports due to a physical disability.
