Year 7 students had a rare chance to see a Sugar Glider in flight during our latest trip to Bugtopia.

The students visited Bugtopia yesterday to learn about different organisms and their adaptations as part of a project which will lead to the students designing their own organisms.

During the visit they saw a gliding possum called a Sugar Glider (pictured) in flight and studied spiders and cockroaches.

CTS Director of Science Victoria Khan said: “The visit was a big success and the students were very lucky to handle a Sugar Glider and see it in flight.

“We also studied cockroaches which are very well adapted organisms that pre-date the dinosaurs. They can survive nuclear blasts and they are the only organism to be unchanged in Chernobyl since its nuclear reactor explosion.

“The students loved the trip and I was very pleased with them. Some of them were very nervous of spiders but they were so enthusiastic about the project they managed to combat their fears and take part in the sessions.”
