'Them and Us' launches for Year 8 and Year 9 at CTS

'Them and Us' launches at CTS as a programme which supports our monthly campaign of #AmbitionForAll.

At Corby Technical School, we constantly thrive to give our students as many opportunities as possible to develop themselves alongisde their academic studies. With this in mind, we have introduced an exciting new programme to Year 8 and Year 9 as part of the #AmbitionForAll initiative. The programme which was created by PiXL is called: ‘Them and Us’. The students take part in the programme every Friday during tutor time. Mr Cox introduced the ‘Them and Us’ programme to the students in assembly last week to explain the world-changing project that the students were about to begin.

The ‘Them and Us’ project aims at teaching students how to respect others by showing:

  • Understanding
  • Empathy
  • Kindness
  • Compassion

The students are aware that by showing these 4 features of respect to each other, it will then spread into the wider community. The programme includes a range of activities and tasks which teach the students how to develop the attributes of being understanding, empathetic, kind and compassionate.

After the launch, last Friday was the first day that the students took part in the project- the theme being ‘Kindness’ for Year 8 and ‘Respect’ for Year 9. The 30-minute tutor time is fully-packed with exciting activities which focuses on building better relationships among our students through the way they interact with each other.

Mr Cox said: “It is a really interesting programme which I think our students will really benefit from. We are hoping that the students will understand that we can interact positively to everyone by showing them empathy, kindness, understanding and compassion, even to those people in the ‘Them’ group. This will eventually spread into our wider community, making Corby a better place and then the world.”

The programme ties well into the #AmbitionForAll campaign as the students have set an ambition for themselves to be kind to everyone around them, whether they are in the ‘Them’ group or the ‘Us’ group. They have something to work towards which will have a positive influence onto the wider community and seeing valuable results from their actions.
