Course Content

AS and A-level Physical Education qualifications allow students to play to their strengths and gain dynamic theoretical and practical skills for further education or work.

AS PE

  • Applied anatomy and physiology
  • Skill acquisition

A2 PE

Examination Details

AS PE

Examination

  • Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport
  • 2 hours in duration
  • Three sections all worth 28 marks (84 marks in total)
  • Multiple choice, short answer and extended writing task for each section
  • 70% of final AS grade

Non-examination assessment

  • Students assessed as a performer or a coach in the full sided version of one activity
  • In addition students will have a written/verbal assessment of their analysis of a performance
  • Internally assessed by subject teacher and externally moderated by exam board
  • 90 marks
  • 30% of final AS grade

A2 PE

Examination

  • 2 papers
  • Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport
  • Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport
  • Both papers are 2 hours in duration
  • Three sections on each paper, all worth 35 marks (105 marks)
  • Multiple choice, short answer and extended writing task for each section
  • Each paper is worth 35% of A-level  (70% in total)

  • Students assessed as a performer or a coach in the full sided version of one activity
  • In addition students will have a written/verbal assessment of their analysis of a performance
