Year 11 Art support

Subject Support

The portfolio component will run until May 2023 and work will be in response to a theme or two themes. Students will need to mount and annotate their work to explain their responses.

All students have been provided with a paper that gives them with five themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points. Their aim is to produce a body of work in various media that responds to their chosen theme. They need to produce at least two artist studies and at least ten observation images, photographs can be used as recorded material.

The work should be of a range of images that they can show to meet the four assessment objectives.

  • AO1 Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating critical understanding of sources.

  • AO2 Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes.

  • AO3 Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses.

  • AO4 Present a personal and meaningful response.

To encourage good preparation, students are expected to select high-quality reference images, take photographs and research artists, craftspeople and designers.
