Year 9

Students will start their Geography GCSE at the beginning of year 9 and develop skills throughout the 3 years to equip them for the end of year 11 where they will complete a series of 3 exams. The exam board we have chosen for GCSE Geography at Corby Technical School is AQA (course code 8035).

The first exam students will complete is ‘Paper 1: Living with the physical environment’ where they will be assessed on the challenge of natural hazards, the living world, physical landscapes in the UK and geographical skills. This exam is 1 hour 30 minutes and is worth 35% of the GCSE.

The second exam students will complete is ‘Paper 2: Challenges in the human environment’ where they will be assessed on urban issues and challenges, The changing economic world, The challenge of resource management and geographical skills. This exam is 1 hour 30 minutes and is worth 35% of the GCSE.

The final examination is ‘Paper 3: Geographical applications’. For students to complete this exam they will have to attend two compulsory fieldtrips in year (10/11) where we will study rivers or coasts and a study of urban geography. This fieldwork will then be written up in the classroom and students will become familiar with the techniques they used on the trip along with the data it yielded. This will them aid them in their final exam.  This exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes and is worth 30% of the GCSE.
