Exam Preparation & Revision
First and foremost, effective lesson time is the most significant factor in ensuring excellent outcomes at GCSE. Each lesson provides students with high quality teaching and resources with regular one-to-one support from their class teacher. It is important that students are putting high levels of effort into each and every lesson. However, there are ways to supplement classroom studies to improve Maths progress outside of lesson time.
Identify
Independent revision needs to be targeted. Identify topics that you have struggled with in lessons or assessments. Your class teacher will be conducting detailed question-level analysis for each student after mock examinations. You will be given this to pinpoint your revision and close gaps in knowledge.
Review
Once you have identified topics to revise, you should use Maths Genie, found at https://www.mathsgenie.co.uk/gcse.html to revise topics. Separated by grade, each topic has a video tutorial. We recommend watching the whole video, making notes, and attempting the examples given in the tutorial.
Assess
When you have reviewed a topic, you need to assess whether you have closed this gap in knowledge. On the same page as the video tutorial links, there is access to exam questions for each topic. When you have attempted these, you can access the worked solutions to mark your work. You can also study this mark scheme to help identify and correct any mistakes you have made. You may wish to speak to your teacher if you are still unsure after marking your independent work.
Additional Support Sessions
The department are running targeted intervention in Term 4. These will run on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-5pm. These sessions will develop students’ exam technique. This includes a blended approached of walking talking mocks (teachers’ model solutions to exam questions and share exam tips whilst students take notes) and independent practice (developing resilience in working through exam style questions). The department’s approach to intervention will be responsive to the information provided to us by mock examinations. We will also run drop-in sessions for students that would appreciate some further support
