Governance
"Becoming a governor turned my frustration into purpose. It opened my eyes to the incredible work schools do behind the scenes and gave me a chance to grow, give back, and help shape a better future for our children."
— Karen Rust, Parent Governor, CTS

Welcome to Corby Technical School. As Chair of Governors, I’m incredibly proud to be part of a dedicated team working in partnership with school leaders to ensure every student receives the highest quality education and opportunities to thrive.
My journey as a governor began with a desire to give something back. Having experienced the life-changing impact of education myself, I wanted to contribute to a local school and support the next generation. Since joining the governing board over six years ago, I’ve seen first-hand the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our students, and the strength of our school community.
Our governing body is made up of individuals from a range of backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to helping every student succeed. We provide challenge, support, and strategic oversight to help the school continue to grow and develop.
Being a governor is incredibly rewarding. It’s a chance to gain insight into how a school operates, influence key decisions, and play an active role in shaping the future of education in our town. If you're ever considering becoming a governor yourself, I wholeheartedly encourage you—it's one of the most meaningful ways to make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. On behalf of the Governing Body, I look forward to continuing our work in ensuring that every student at CTS receives the best possible education and a strong foundation for the future.
Warm regards,
Demelza Burn
Chair of Governors
Corby Technical School
At Corby Technical School (CTS), the Local Governing Board (LGB) plays a vital role in supporting strong leadership, holding the Principal to account, and ensuring high standards for students and staff. As a committee of the Trust Board, governors meet at least three times a year to challenge and support the school’s performance, safeguard its values, and ensure it is meeting the needs of its pupils and community.
Corby Technical School is part of the Brooke Weston Trust, a multi-academy trust. The LGB acts as a local committee, gathering insight and information that supports the strategic work of the Trust Board and helps inform decision-making at a trust-wide level.
Working closely with the Principal, Director of Education, and Trust leaders, governors:
• Help shape strategic priorities and ensure accountability
• Monitor educational outcomes and compliance
• Ensure pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and behaviour remain high
• Represent the local community and maintain strong relationships with families and stakeholders
We follow the Trust’s 4S model of governance, which focuses on:
Standards, Safeguarding, SEND, and Stakeholders.
This ensures that governors concentrate on the most impactful areas for school improvement and pupil success.
Local governance is essential in upholding the Trust’s mission to ensure that no child is left behind, and that every student receives the best possible education and a ‘ticket for life’.
