SEND
Here at Corby Technical School, we value all learners – irrespective of their academic ability, which could be affected by additional needs.
We recognise that every student has different needs and that all students require some form of individualised curriculum to support learning. We strive to create an environment where every student can succeed and enjoy educational success. Students recognised with SENd (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) are well-supported within the school; we have an established team of Support Staff who promptly respond to the educational requirements of our students. This is whilst students are encouraged to become resilient, ambitious and independent learners.
The Learning Base, and consequently The SENd Department, provides specialist support for students with Special Educational Needs through individual and small group programmes of study; we match students’ particular needs with bespoke interventions. For example, some of the areas we target include: Literacy skills, Mathematical understanding, and Social and Emotional regulation.
Students recognised with SENd are also supported within classrooms, through Quality First Teaching. This is where all teachers ensure they have the knowledge of the students in front of them and their additional needs. This enables teaching staff to provide a suitable, supportive and high-quality learning opportunities. Additionally, some students with Special Educational Needs receive support from a Teaching Assistant to support learning inside the classroom or through the delivery of additional supportive interventions. The main aim of the intervention is to equip students with the skills to become independent learners.
We pride ourselves on the effective relationships we build; partnerships with students, their parents and carers and other outside agencies ensure that students make good progress at Corby Technical School. Moreover, we are committed to providing the best possible care and support to all students – especially those students who are faced with difficulties and challenges that present barriers to their learning.
