Co-Curricular Clubs
As a student at Corby Technical School, we want you to develop the skills and attributes that will support you in making a success of yourself throughout your life. We focus on the key employability skills so that you will be ready for a fast-changing global market.
Our curriculum encompasses a broad range of activities to help you to develop your love of learning beyond the classroom and to ignite your ambition as well as supporting you to become an active citizen who is proud to serve the community you belong to. You will be able to organise yourself and others, developing the skills you need to be effective team member in a variety of contexts.
Joining a club, or several clubs is a brilliant way for you to develop your personal skills: You will have the chance to learn new skills, make friends and have fun all at the same time. Some of our clubs are linked to the subjects you do in school, but many are very different to your normal lessons. Whatever your interests, there is definitely something for you.
Below you can see some examples of the sort of clubs available. To check what is on offer this term please look on Edu-link where you can also sign up to clubs each week.
Have a look through and decide which ones you would like to join. Some clubs are just for your year group, others are mixed year groups which provide a great opportunity to make new friends who share similar interests.
Once you have made your choices, click on the Edu-link button and book your places in the clubs you would like to do this term.
If you have a question about our clubs please click on the help & advice section.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is the world's leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 25-year-olds the opportunity to be the very best they can be. There are around 300,000 participants annually in the UK and 144 nations operate the scheme.
Students at Corby Technical School have the exciting opportunity to enrol onto The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE).
They will be working towards achieving their Bronze, Silver and Gold Award by completing a personal programme of activities. These are:
- Volunteering - helping someone, the community or the environment
- Physical - becoming fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities
- Skills - developing existing talents or trying something new
- Expedition - planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey
- Residential (Gold only) - staying and working away from home as part of a team
The length of time spent on each section depends on the level of programme they are doing. Students will choose what they do and along the way they will develop experiences, friends and talents that will stay with them for the rest of their life.
DofE
Taking part in the DofE award will give students the skills, confidence and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities. They also get recognised for doing things that they want to do (and may even be doing already) ...plus they will make a difference to other people’s lives and the community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories that will last a lifetime. But most importantly it is fun and enjoyable.
Corby Technical school start enrolling young people onto the DofE award from Year 9 (14 yrs). You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.
Bronze Award
It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme. You must be aged 14+.
- Volunteering section: 3 months
- Physical section: 3 months
- Skills section: 3 months
- Expedition section: 2 days/1 night
Silver Award
It will take you at least 6 months for Silver if you’ve already achieved your Bronze, or 12 months if you’ve jumped straight into Silver. You must be aged 15+.
- Volunteering section: 6 months
- Physical and Skills sections: One section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months
- Expedition section: 3 days/2 nights
If you didn’t do Bronze, you must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.
Gold Award
For Gold, you’ll need to do your programme for at least 12 months if you’ve achieved your Silver Award, or 18 months if you’ve started at Gold level without doing your Silver – even if you’ve done Bronze. The big difference at Gold is you’ll also do a Residential section – staying away from home for five days and four nights doing a shared activity with people you don’t know. You must be aged 16+.
- Volunteering section: 12 months
- Physical and Skills sections: One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months
- Expedition section: 4 days/3 nights
